2,000-year-old theater on the hillside. Used for Shakespeare every summer
Roman Theater
Everyone knows the Arena. Almost no one knows the Teatro Romano, a 1st-century BC theater carved into the hill across the Adige from the old city. The Arena fits 20,000 people. The Teatro Romano fits 3,000 and hosts an international Shakespeare festival every summer — in the open air, at night, with the skyline behind the stage. Included in the ticket is an archaeological museum living inside an old monastery on the cliff above. Entry costs less than the Arena. The view from the upper tiers, looking back over the Adige at the old city, is one of the best in Verona.
Visitor Tip
Buy a ticket to the archaeological museum included with entry — it lives inside the old monastery above the theater. The cable car up the hill costs nothing extra.
