The only Roman bridge in Verona. Best view from the side nobody stands on
Ponte Pietra at Sunset
Ponte Pietra is the oldest Roman bridge in Verona, two thousand years old and rebuilt after WWII with the original stones recovered from the Adige riverbed. Almost everybody walks straight across it. Very few stop on the right bank to look back: the Roman arches frame the skyline of the old town with Sant'Anastasia and the Lamberti tower. At sunset the river turns gold and the stone turns amber. The tourists photograph from the wrong side. Cross the bridge, find the small piazzetta on the right bank, and stay until the light is gone.
