Piazza delle Erbe Before Eight

The most photographed piazza in Verona exists in two versions. The tourists'. And the real one

Piazza delle Erbe Before Eight

Best Time to VisitBefore 8:00 AM — the only time it belongs to locals
Suggested Duration45 min – 1 hour

After 9 in the morning, Piazza delle Erbe is a labyrinth of selfie sticks, souvenir stalls and tourist menus pinned to the walls of 16th-century palaces. Before 8, the same piazza is a market of vegetables, wildflowers and local cheeses — the Veronese greengrocers' stalls set up at dawn as their grandparents set them up. The medieval palms filter the light. The pigeons are still asleep. The city smells of bread and coffee. Just get up early.

Visitor Tip

Come for the market, stay for the coffee. The same piazza at 9 AM is a labyrinth of selfie sticks. Your hotel breakfast keeps you away from the best hour.
